How’s the squad is shaping up?

With just a month to go until the end of the transfer window and the deadline for the 25 man squad, just how are things looking?

As you may know, all player over the age of 21 must be registered and given a squad number in order to be available to play in a Premier League match.

To be classed as a 21 year old a player must be 21 on January 1st of the year in which the season commences. In layman’s terms, if a player turned 22 in April he is still classed as a 21 year old.

The reason for this is because FIFA had to draw a line somewhere and with a number of leagues around the world, such as Scandinavia, plying from April to October it had to be applicable to everyone.

So, what do we know about the squad so far? (Numbers are not squad numbers)

1. Steve Mandanda
2. Wayne Hennessey or Alex McCarthy
3. Julian Speroni

4. Joel Ward
5. Pape Souare
6. Martin Kelly
7. Zeki Fryers
8. Scott Dann
9. Damien Delaney
10. James Tomkins

11. Yohan Cabaye
12. James McCarthur
13. Mile Jedinak
14. Joe Ledley
15. Jordan Mutch
16. Jason Puncheon

17. Yannick Bolasie
18. Wilfred Zaha
19. Andros Townsend
20. Bakary Sako
21. Chun-Yung Lee

22. Connor Wickham
23. Frazier Campbell

Players over 21 who might feature:
Jonny Williams
Freddie Ladapo
Keshi Anderson
Kwesi Appiah

U-21 players
Sullay KaiKai
Hiram Boetang
Jake Gray
Jerome Binnom Williams
Luke Croll
Luke Dreher

As you can see we only have 3 recognised centre back players and two forwards. This is, of course, assuming that Zeki Fryers will be included as a cover for the left back position, which is probably.

So, with only two squad numbers available and needing at least 3 players it will be interesting. I think many of us would like to see Jonny Williams included in some way but this looks to be unlikely.

Quite simply, we have too many wingers. I would like to see us sell a winger to make a space for Williams, sign a centre back and one forward.
