I’ve been fairly quiet recently. What with one thing or another I have been moving back in to my flat, getting things straight and watching the Palace. I’ve only really had time to fulfil my commitment to The Eagles Beak and making my podcasts. That isn’t a complaint, just making my excuses.
I have been keeping up to date on people’s reactions and, if I am blunt, over reactions to our last 3 games. At the start of the season I don’t think many people would have hoped to have picked up more than 2 points from the games verses West Ham, Leicester and Liverpool so it came as a surprise when once again the chorus of sack Pardew began.
Sure, West Ham and Leicester have not had the best of starts to the season but they are teams who are going to move up the table once they get going. I think we lost 2 points there rather than the 9 points some people are saying.
I for one do not subscribe to the Pardew out opinion, not yet. I’ll admit I am beginning to lose patience with him and I was highly critical of him after our start to the season and how we failed to get another defender in the transfer window but a run of 3 wins and 2 draws in 5 games eased the pressure on him.
Actually, in my opinion we should have got more points from those five games than we did. I had us beating Bournemouth and losing at Everton in my predictions so it is open to debate if that one extra point in exchange for a win and a defeat would have been better for us or not.
When the season started I thought the West Ham game would have been a draw. We were unlucky in that game, it happens. Leicester away, again a little unlucky but look past their name and remember they are the champions! Liverpool at home, I was saying in the run up to the game that we’d get a tonking and we did, I didn’t think we’d get two goals though.
So all in all, are those last 8 results anything to want Pardew sacked over? A form of DWWWDLLL in the last 8 games… I accept his record for the year should be taken in to consideration but, come on… Do we hold ourselves in such high regard these days?
Saturday’s game at Burnley is the big one. Anything other than a win and I would practically have lost faith in him. The same old problem would appear. Who would replace him? There isn’t anyone I really like out there who’d be interested in Palace.
That aside, say we beat Burnley then job done! Next up… Manchester City away where we usually let in 4 goals without reply! So, a defeat at Manchester Citt and the chorus of sack Pardew will be back for an encore.
So, what do you want? Should we go to Manchester City to try to win or just go up there to park the bus to get a draw? Either way we’re probably going to lose because they have the best attack in the league and we… Well… We don’t have the best defence in the league!
Don’t get me wrong, I am not defending Pardew. We dropped points we should have won and while I think we will finish 10th this season I don’t think our position is anything to be complacent about. We have a terrible run in and if we don’t pick up points against the teams we should be beating then we could be in trouble come April.
If Pardew is to be sacked then it shouldn’t be because we lost to teams like Liverpool or Manchester City, it is because we failed to beat West Brom and Bournmouth.
